Places to Visit

There are many things to do and see in and around the area. If sightseeing is your thing, then we have the White Cliffs of Dover very nearby, the historic Cinque Port of Hythe and the Seaside town of Folkestone. All within a short drive, well worth a visit to enjoy the great food, hostelries and shops, as well as soaking up some history with a little row on the Hythe Military Canal.  Whatever you fancy, the local area can deliver. If you wish to just relax and take in the wonderful countryside, then we are at the foot of the North Downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Just make sure you plan enough time to do it all.

South Foreland Lighthouse

A Railway Museum created in the 1980s, to capture the history of the Elham Valley Railway Line which ran through the picturesque Elham Valley between Canterbury and Folkestone, from 1884 to 1947.

Centre includes railway museum, Georges barn and tea room.

Visit the National Trust Foreland Lighthouse walk, which starts just behind Dover Castle and stretches along the White Cliffs all the way to the lighthouse, where you can enjoy a well earned rest, or fly a kite.  Enjoying a cream tea or cake to compliment your tea.

Places to Eat

Here at The Gatekeeper, we are lucky to live near the coast with local access to fresh fish and seafood, we also work closely with our local farmers to get the very best fresh seasonal produce, including meat, fruit and veg! We serve food daily, and everything that comes out of our kitchen is freshly prepared by our experienced chefs. We always have a range of vegetarian meals and as well as vegan specials, we are happy to meet dietary requirements wherever possible.

Set in the picturesque village of Denton, just outside of Canterbury, The Jackdaw offers a warm, friendly welcome to customers visiting our contemporary bar and restaurant. Used as a setting for the famous Battle of Britain film, The Jackdaw showcases a variety of Spitfire memorabilia, especially in the Spitfire room. We have a real log fire to cosy up to during the winter months and a spacious garden to take advantage of during the summer.
